Service of De Lijn buses has been disrupted in some places – mainly throughout the province of Limburg – following a spontaneous strike that broke out on Wednesday morning.

The strike started at the subcontractor's depot in Genk and has since spread to other depots in the province, Belga News Agency reports.

Workers are striking impromptu following the assault of a driver which took place on Tuesday evening.

The drivers who were already on the road decided to turn back, according to the transport company, and as a result, bus traffic is expected to remain disrupted throughout the province.

De Lijn is advising travellers to check conditions for their planned routes via the company's app or website.
