An investigation has been launched after several young women reported being drugged at a party Saturday evening, according to the Arlon public prosecutor's office. The attacks took place in Dampicourt, a town in southeast Belgium near the French border.

Seven complaints were filed and four of the victims were minors. Some reported noticing the trace of a needle prick on their arm or buttocks the day after the party.

One young woman said that she found suspicious powder residue at the bottom of her drink, perhaps of a partially-dissolved pill. All the victims suffered symptoms including memory loss, dizziness, nausea and headaches.

The prosecutor's office expects more complaints.

Though a relatively new phenomenon, drug attacks by needle are becoming increasingly common in Belgium and elsewhere. Women have reported being attacked with a syringe in the UK, and six investigations have been opened in Paris since last week.

Police forces and citizens' organisations urge victims to come forward in the event of an attack.
