Two persons were seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling crashed into several parked vehicles before slamming into the front of a building in Pecq, near Tournai, on Saturday morning, Belga News Agency reports.

The Picardy Wallonia rescue services were alerted at about 2.45 a.m. on Saturday that a road accident had occurred on the Tournai Road at Pecq, in the Tournai-Kortrijk direction.

An extrication vehicle, beacon truck, command vehicle, two ambulances and an Emergency Medical Services (SMUR) vehicle were rushed to the scene.

Both had to be removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital. However, according to the emergency physician, their lives are not in danger

The accident occurred when the driver of a car registered in France lost control of his vehicle for reasons still to be determined by the investigation. The vehicle slammed into two parked cars, then ended up against the front of a residential home.

"Fortunately, this vehicle’s slowed down after it crashed into the parked vehicles before coming to a halt against the building, which did not need to be shored up,” Captain Issam Joudar, who led the rescue operation, explained.

The driver and the passenger, both in their thirties, were conscious when the fire service extricated them from the vehicle.

“Seriously injured, they were taken care of by the SMUR’s emergency physician,” Captai Joudar said. “Both were admitted to the Casualty Department at the Picardy Walloon Hospital Centre in Tournai. According to the doctor, their lives are not in danger.”
