Federal Minister of Economy and Employment, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, has signed a Royal Decree incentivising unemployed persons to seek work in unknown territory.

On Thursday, the socialist minister announced that from September 1, long-term unemployed workers will be awarded the equivalent of 25% of their unemployment benefits if they relocate to another region or work in a sector with a labour shortage.

The financial incentive would be granted to these workers for a three-month period and can be combined with the salary.

To benefit, Dermagne noted that individuals will simply have to apply to an unemployment office, which will determine if they meet the requirements.

"I support this measure and I am confident that it will encourage unemployed workers to find work in industries where there is a labour shortage or to dare to cross linguistic borders."

This measure is part of the government's efforts to boost employment and had previously been discussed within the interfederal platform set up by Dermagne to find solutions to shortage trades and interregional mobility.
