Easter weekend saw a large number of people choosing e-scooters for transportation, according to European micro-mobility company Dott.
Dott saw its busiest week of the year – with ride numbers 20% higher than the previous week – during the holiday weekend, no doubt prompted to some extent by unusually good weather. Many of those rides were taken by new users, too.
“As people across Europe enjoyed warm weather and bank holidays, Dott signed up more new riders than in any other week this year, over 50% more than in the previous week,” the company announced in a press release.
Despite growing pains, scooter use continues to rise
Scooters are becoming a popular form of transport in Brussels, which has at times struggled to deal with their high rates of use and the resulting issues, like discarded scooters blocking footpaths and cluttering street corners.
The Belgian capital implemented new legislation to address this problem, just ahead of federal legislation intended to do the same.
Growing pains aside, scooters are being used more and more to get around the city: in the first quarter of 2022, Dott – which is one of several operators in the capital – saw a 285% increase in rides against the same period in 2021.

“Travel habits are evolving, as people across European cities become less reliant on cars and increasingly realise the value of shared e-scooters and e-bikes as a reliable and efficient form of travel,” said Henri Moissinac, Dott’s Co-Founder and CEO.
“With significant numbers trying our service for the first time, we hope more people will be convinced to switch to our vehicles which can free them from the delays and stress of congestion whilst making cities cleaner.”
