The summer holidays commence on Friday evening with thousands set to head south for a break in the sun. For those making the journey by car, a summer discount of €0.12 per litre will be offered at motorway service stations in France.

TotalEnergies announced on Thursday that it would be offering the discount at all its motorway stations in the country "to help all those hitting the road for a holiday in France this summer" in light of the rising fuel prices, which the company has hugely profited from.

The discount, offered on petrol (excluding Superethanol E85) and diesel (excluding off-road diesel), will run from 1 July until 31 August 2022. This discount comes on top of the discount of €0.18/litre including VAT offered by the government.

"The overall discount at the company's service stations will therefore be €0.30/litre, the equivalent to a saving of €15 for a 50-litre tank," a statement from the company read.

'Commitment to costumers'

In its announcement, the French company stated that the discount is being offered as a "commitment to its customers in France" as a result of the great tension in the energy markets which is pushing up fuel prices and weighing on people's purchasing power.
