Three of Belgium's top players – Kevin De Bruyne, Yannick Carrasco, and Thomas Meunier – have been left out of the national side that travels to Poland on Monday for their UEFA Nations League fixture, team manager Roberto Martinez confirmed on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference after the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against Wales in Cardiff, Martinez said the three players had already given enough and did not need to go to Poland. Belgium trounced the Polish national team with a 6-1 victory on Wednesday.

“We do not want to take any risks and we certainly do not want to force things,” he explained, adding that 23 players would be going to Poland.

The Belgian coach had already said on Friday that his intention was to have players take part in at most three of the four matches. Both Kevin De Bruyne and Yannick Carrasco played against the Netherlands, Poland and Wales; Meunier, who returned to the squad after a long injury, has played two matches.
